Evergreen Holding Get Acquainted Event In Sherman
September 26, 2003, For Immediate Release
For More Information, Contact Mary Ann Van Osdell,
Director Of Communications, 318-752-4190

Evergreen Presbyterian Ministries is having a “Get Acquainted With Evergreen” event on Thursday, Oct. 23, beginning at 5 p.m. at Cock of The Walk Restaurant in Sherman.
Churches have invited their congregations to attend. Speakers will discuss Evergreen and appetizers will be served.
A milestone in the Evergreen ministry was reached when the last of the residents who lived in the former 64-bed Sherman Habilitation Center were moved into community homes in the area recently. That event culminated Evergreen's efforts to improve the lives of former residents there by helping them integrate into the community.

Five community homes, typical homes in middle class neighborhoods, in Sherman and Arlington in the Dallas Metroplex, have been purchased by Evergreen and are now considered "Home Sweet Home" to the former Sherman residents.

"Evergreen has expended considerable resources both human and financial to turn this heartwrenching situation to one filled with hope and anticipation for the lives of the residents," said Dr. Bernard Wagner, president of Evergreen.

Evergreen has begun a campaign to raise $1.8 million to assist with the repayment of loans necessitated by the purchase of the former institution and the new community homes.

Due to the urgency of the situation in Sherman, Evergreen acted to remedy the situation without the benefit of a capital campaign in advance. So, now to ensure the ongoing future success of Evergreen in its ministry in Sherman as well as future similar needs, Evergreen must repay its indebtedness.
